Jasbir Singh

“The New Cross massacre happened… And we organised two coaches down from Sheffield to come down to that, and various different immigration marches … So I got involved in all that kind of work as well. And basically race politics then absorbed me completely.”

Jasbir was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and grew up there and in India. Coming to London at the age of seventeen, he studied for A-levels and then gained  a degree from
Sheffield University. In the 1980s Jasbir worked extensively on racial politics campaigns, particularly with Newham Monitoring Project.
